Mammoth Pool Reservoir is located on San Joaquin River surrounded by mountains forming a steep narrow valley. Starting mid June all the way to November, the lake is open for camping, fishing, boating, swimming and hiking. Mammoth Pool Resort is the closest campground to the lake with piped water facility.
Why am I talking about Mammoth Pool? Well it's were we went together with hubs' office. This resort is owned and operated by the wife of his boss. I can say their campground has the best facilities because they have a store with (almost) complete foods and necessities you'll need for the the camping. They even have a concession of gasoline in case you're running low on fuel.
After given so much considerations with the baby for this trip with the ride & cabin provided, hubs had no choice but to join the office. All of them brought their tents, coolers, sleeping bags, chairs and other stuffs while all we needed to worry about are our clothes, the foods assigned to us, air mattress, blankets and whatever baby will need. An officemate let hubs borrow 2 chairs, sleeping bag and mat. While others are so busy building up their tents laying out the tarps on the floor, we're all settled already in the cabin.
The cabin's very basic but comfortable enough to keep us safe and warm compared to tents though an additional tarp like canvas tarp as cover for the cabin screen can be better to keep more warmth. The fresh smell of the woods and a good view of pine trees from the cabin gives a feeling which truly is exceptional. Not too far from our cabin is a fence where horses come and feed on the other side.
