Ayie
Milk only for babies? Not true at all!

I honestly never had the liking with milk since I was a kid as I will prefer to have coffee over milk and not even hot chocolate. I was often told by my mom it's important for kids to drink milk so we'll get to grow strong and healthy but that didn't sway me from liking it. Only now that I am realizing what mom told me. I know it's important to keep our body healthy most especially our bones which serve as the main reinforcement of our body. As we age we lose calcium and even more when you are pregnant. I read about it in one of my maternity books saying if we don't supply enough calcium for baby at least through milk and other calcium rich foods, baby then will get the calcium supply from our bones. This can't be felt like right now but results might be evident as we age and our bones will be brittle and probably suffer with osteoporosis.

Many say having a baby changes your life and I think I can agree on that even with just the smallest thing. I can't believe how I can keep up with the very strict diet knowing I hate diets, eating foods that I really didn't grow fond of eating and most especially drinking milk 3x a day! I'm doing it not only for baby but also for me. Of course baby needs a healthy mommy too! Just like the flowers and plants needing water to nourish them, our bones need same nourishment too. Not only our bones will benefit from drinking milk so just check it out here for further reading.

...baby elisse @ 1yr old...

It's pretty scary not knowing how healthy our "inside" is just like having osteoporosis which is known as a silent disease that may only be noticed until broken bones occur. I knew some people who had to undergo knee and durom cup hip replacement and I was told told it wasn't fun experience but they needed to do it to keep them back on their feet. There are procedures before the operation to know issues on zimmer durom cup and determine zimmer durom cup types to be used. It's only good that technology nowadays can aid us in other means but being physically fit is the best way to be.

...cute!!!!...

What are your measures to keep your body healthy and well nourished with the right nutrients? Do you like drinking milk or anything like a milk substitute?

  2. lina Says:

I can't take milk because of my acute gastrisis problem but I do actually love milk! :(

  3. ladyviral Says:

Milk is really good for us :). Calcium filled!

But how about those who are lactose intolerant? Those are really hard :/

@ lina : you can't take milk because of your gastrisis problem? And here I thought milk will neutralize the problem... ever tried goat's milk instead?

  4. Superman Says:

Yes, we need calcium more when we get older. I do love milk but don't drink it very often. I drink tea more.

  5. Y.S Says:

I was lactose intolerant since I was really young. So... I have to eat loads of eggs instead.
I love the picture of baby elisse and her bottle evolution on this picture :-)

  6. lina Says:

    @LV,
when have gastric, milk is a definite no-no. And no Milo also. Otherwise, happy purging all day long! @_@

  7. Ayie Says:

    Levian,

Does your sis have cafe? Looks like it's the most feasible guess for me with how you said things. I still crave for coffee and take once in a while. I totally cut down my coffee when I got serious with trying to conceive up to now.

  8. Ayie Says:

    Lina,

Oh that's so sad =( for somebody who loves milk. SO no dairies for you? But how about ice cream, it has milk content?

  9. Ayie Says:

    LadyV,

I am lactose intolerant and I am just surprised that now all of a sudden my tummy's giving way to the milk even if it's fresh from the fridge! I always had to drink warm milk or else tummy rumbles and sometimes even with warm milk iot gets me. I think baby's getting much of my milk supply so I'm being more lactose tolerant now. Haha, am i making any sense?

  10. Ayie Says:

    Superman,

I love drinking tea too! It'd also healthy for us as we age to clean out our system. Good for you that you like milk. As long as you consume it from time to time I think it's ok.

  11. Ayie Says:

    YS,

You too? I am surprised having more tolerance with milk nowadays, maybe because of my baby in the tummy. I love Elisse's photos here, so cute!

  12. Mariuca Says:

I love certain milk Ayie... currently enjoying HL that's my fave so far. Lo in fat and tastes almost like vanilla! :)

  13. Mariuca Says:

Love all the pics too, babies are so adorable! Esp dis cutie pie, hugs! :)

  14. Ayie Says:

    Mariuca,

Hi Marzie! You have a specific milk you're enjoying now! That must be good, I hate bland milk and I think I will like that if it's that great tasting.

I came across Elisse's photos with the bottle, perfect for this post! Thanks!

To stay healthy, I just try to eat a balanced diet with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables. I also try to stay away from fast foods.

Sounds like you're doing a good job taking care of yourself and the baby. You're going to be a wonderful mother.

  16. levian Says:

ah no, they have a bridal. but we had breakfast everyday at the coffee shop. you are cutting down the coffee intake, which is cool. :) i had been convincing my dad a while back then too. he used to have then for morning n night, sometimes losing count of how many cups he had. it was scary, like an addiction.

  17. True. Milk is important for adults too.

  18. Cherry Says:

i have to be a good example to my lil' girl so i drink milk before going to bed every night. :)

  19. Tekkaus Says:

Indeed milk is very important to all of us, but recently I have came across a book that revealed how deadly milk can be. :(

  20. Tekkaus Says:

Anyway Elisse is so damn cute. She has your bro and your eyes. :p

  21. I'm starting to drink milk more regularly due to loss of calcium with aging. :P

When I was pregnant, I was given calcium tablets.

  22. The babies are your niece and nephew? They are so cute!

  23. Ayie Says:

    Kawaii Crafter,

Oh thank you! I also stay away from junk foods and consume more greens and fruits. =)

  24. Ayie Says:

    Levian,

I was really determined to conceive that time so when i read about caffeine intake and how it hinders (when it's too much) conception then I started cutting down my coffee to a point that I just drink once a week or few times a month, not even weekly.

  25. Ayie Says:

    Willie,

    For stronger bones =P

  26. Ayie Says:

    Cher,

Mommy cher now you will drink milk every night to be a good example =)

  27. Ayie Says:

    Tekkaus,

I love Elisse's smile! So so nice!!

I read your posts about food s and all. Everything has pros and cons so what can we do? That's why sometimes I hate reading coz it's scary with all the negative things written there.

  28. Ayie Says:

    ECL,

It's the same baby Elisse. We all looked like boys when we were babies because we are mostly bald and some facial feature =P

I was required to drink milk here so i just follow. I took calcium tablets before since i never liked drinking milk.

  29. levian Says:

that is a good practice! it will definitely do you good in the long run. keep up the good work! ;)

  30. ladyviral Says:

    Yes you are, hun.

But sometimes when one gets pregnant a lot of things changed in our body.
Like a colleague of my who used to love crabs... now can't stand crabs after she gave birth. I wish I would still love beef after birth T.T

  31. Ayie Says:

    LadyV,

Many changes and there are instances you'll hate things you love even foods. Higher sensitivity and all. Good thing I am not like that. It's weird that she never got back her ways after giving birth. I'm waiting for the final moment so i can also break free with all the restrictions, it's hard to keep up.

  32. Donna Says:

    I like milk.. A LOT..
but i read from don't know where, milk is the one that caused osteoporosis (I don't know the spelling. >.<), coz our human body don't really can digest the milk from animals well..

there is a lot of contradict facts here and there, i also dont know which fact is correct. =(

  33. I don't drink milk daily, but I eat yogurt! It's so important to have in our intake!

  34. Ayie Says:

    Donna,

Many things are contradicting when you read stuffs, that's true but still milk has supplemental nutrients which our bodies need so it will do us good too in the end.

  35. Ayie Says:

    Icy,

That's great alternative. that's also what I take if milk is not available or I'm out and about.

  36. foongpc Says:

I like milk with cornflakes! But I don't drink them often. Sometimes I wonder if milk is really needed to prevent osteoporosis. There are reports that animal fats (including milk) accelerates osteoporosis!

Some food for thought - if baby cow drinks milk to grow into adult cow, what the heck are humans doing drinking cow's milk? : )

  37. Ayie Says:

    Foong,

So many conflicting things in the book and medical fields.

lol at your food for thought! don't worry, our moms breastfed us so I think that counted more! hahaha!
