This street food can be seen almost all over Philippines. Who wouldn't love the crispy fried battered egg? Hubs love this and he's been missing to eat some so I decided to make him a good stick of kwek-kwek one time. Quail eggs here can be bought 10pcs or a dozen a $1. For tiny little eggs, I find that quite pricey. I happened to see some in the farmer's market so I made sure I grabbed some for our afternoon merienda. I didn't have any food coloring so I improvised. Instead of buying food color I used powdered cheddar cheese to color the flour, that way it also added much flavor to the batter. I think I made 2 sticks, one for me and one for hubs of course. Baby was napping so we enjoyed everything, he was too young to have eggs that time too. For the sauce, I kind of cheated. I had leftover katsu sauce so not to waste, used it.
Kwek-kwek is for quail eggs and for chicken eggs, it's called tokneneng. Why? I honestly don't know how it came to be. Perhaps I should research about it. Here's a sample recipe in case you want to try making your very own. Any kind of sauce can be used, preferably sour or sweet and sour. Some use vinegar with chopped onions and garlic, sweet and sour sauce or soy sauce with lemon juice. Be creative and use whichever suits your taste.
Ingredients (good for 4)
-
1 dozen eggs, choose quail or chicken
-
cornflour for coating
-
bamboo skewer
-
oil for deep frying
-
Batter:
-
1 cup plain flour
-
1/2 cup water
-
salt and pepper to taste
-
red and yellow food colouring
- Sauce:
-
1/4 cup rice vinegar
-
4 tablespoon brown sugar
-
1/4 cup ketchup
-
2 teaspoon soy sauce
-
Prep: 15 mins
| Cook: 15 mins
1. Boil the eggs for 10 minutes. Remove from pot and let cool then peel the shells.
2. Prepare the batter by putting a few drops of red and yellow food
colouring into the water to get a deep orange colour. Add salt and
pepper to the flour. Pour in the water mixture into the bowl of flour
and mix well until there are no lumps.
3. Heat oil in wok until hot. Dredge the peeled eggs into the cornflour
then drop them into the batter so it's fully covered. Then I use the
skewer to poke the eggs to drop them into the hot oil and deep fry until
the batter is crispy. Remove with slotted spoon and drain on paper
towels.
4. To make the sauce: Mix all the ingredients into a saucepan and heat until the sugar has dissolved. Stir and let cool.
5. Serve the eggs with a side of dipping sauce.

Happy Hollow is a children's fun park and we love this place. We've been there several times and one of which, baby meets Danny the Dragon. He was so excited and happy but only from a distance. He didn't want the dragon to hold him even for a quick photo. Baby tried to get near several times but will break a scream or two with much giggling when the dragon gets near him.

When you have a baby, your normal outings will be for baby's fun and enjoyment. Can you see J carrying that humongous bone to give to Clifford? We went to enjoy the Clifford exhibit in Children's Discovery Museum with baby's buddy A. It was a fun trip for the boys because instead of taking separate cars going to the museum, we opted to take the train. That was baby's second train ride but generally speaking, his first long train ride. We spent almost whole day there so it was pretty much tiring.

There was a Curious George meet and greet event in Santana Row one time so we went there to see and have some photos. Baby J loves George and he was so delighted to see him. The line was too long for us to wait, he was happy already looking from a distance. If we were to wait that will be more of trouble, having an impatient toddler under the scorching sun is never a good idea. He was able to see George up close but no photo opportunity, had to find a nice spot from afar to have both baby and George on screenshot.

Baby J loves to imitate and re-enact this scene from Totoro. So funny when he copies Mei losing balance and almost falling down. He would say "wo-wo-woooh" as he balances on one foot waving his hands up on the air.

Among one of Filipino's favorite dish, can be with pork or beef too. Cooking here in US is different because you'll have to settle with whatever ingredients you can get. It is still satisfying regardless lack of ingredients because of the homey feeling it gives you. This is a perfect dish with a freshly steamed rice for this cold fall weather.

Little did I know how many oceanfront properties existed from Miami beach to Palm Beach until I checked out Seaside Properties Group's website. Take Fisher Island for example, an island that is 3 miles off shore of the mainland South Florida, was created in 1905 by a dredging project that happened all over Miami Beach. It was owned by millionaires over the last century and for the most part remained somewhat private and exclusive.
Today Fisher Island is inaccessible to the public according to Wikipedia, however there are celebrities that have homes on the island such as Oprah Winfrey and Mel Brooks. There are
Luxury oceanfront condos on Fisher Island but I would imagine it would cost a small fortune to acquire such a property. Another interesting thing about Fisher Island is that there are no roads or causeway that connects to the island, it is only accessed by private boat or ferry.
Luxury oceanfront condos at One Bal Harbour are more accessible since they are on the mainland. The population in the area is definitely larger compared to Fisher Island and the is more open to the public. In general, I'd say
luxury oceanfront condos at Bal Harbour is most likely to be more affordable. If you were given the opportunity, which place would you choose?

Just when you think you've seen it all, something else comes along. A great addition to any kitchen is the cleverly designed
Kitchen Magic Twisty Whisk! It is no doubt the most colorful and fun-looking whisk I have ever seen. The handle is made of wood and the wires are covered in silicone with a total length of 12 inches. The whisk wires themselves are a combination of color orange and green, it actually looks good.
There are many different styles when it comes to manual whisks, there's the balloon whisk, the flat whisk, the gravy whisk, the ball whisk, the cage whisk and then the twirl whisk. The
Kitchen Magic Twisty Whisk is sort of a hybrid, which combines the design of the balloon whisk and the twirl whisk all into one unique whisk. Happy whisking!
